Last Minute Valentine Gifts

Be Mine Happy Valentine's day

The 14th is almost upon us – are you still trying to get that “perfect” gift??  When my kids were little, I started a tradition where I asked for something “free” from them for Mother’s Day, my birthday, etc. I got poems, crafts, cards, back rubs, breakfast in bed and when I look back, those are the gifts that I remember the most.  Free usually means “had to think about it”,  and we women love when we know that lots of thought went into a gift that we receive.

A little bit of humour for your Valentine….

The Waiting

Ahhhhh, can you feel it? Love is in the air.

Or perhaps that is the sickly sweet smell of grapes that your child left behind the sofa three weeks ago.

OK, that’s totally what it was.

Moving on.

Valentine’s Day is less than a week away, and if you’re anything like me, you want to celebrate your sweetie in a way that befits your one-of-a-kind love affair. I have created some Valentines to help you do just that.

1. Celebrate the one who has made it all worthwhile.

complete life

2. And celebrate the one who has stuck by you even on days when you ate only hummus for lunch.

thanks for that

3. Say “you’re great” to the one who has cut all their fingernails down for sanitary reasons.

4. Whisper sweet nothings to the person who will always fork over their stick of pepperoni.

5. You care, so go ahead…

HOW TO MAKE SURE YOUR FIRST DATE ISN’T YOUR LAST (well unless of course you want it to be)

Let’s assume that the first date went well and you both are anxious for another meeting.  Here are a few guidelines to help you avoid some common mistakes that couples (both men and women) make when a romance is blossoming.

Don’t be too eager. While the golden rule in dating is to be yourself,  you can come on too strong, scaring your new partner away. Don’t try to rush getting to know one another by revealing everything about yourself right away. Balance listening to them with talking about yourself.

Origin of Valentine’s Day:

Jack B. Oruch writes that the first recorded association of Valentine’s Day with romantic love is in Parlement of Foules (1382) by Geoffrey Chaucer. Chaucer wrote:

For this was on seynt Volantynys day
Whan euery bryd comyth there to chese his make.
